The Basics

Personality: Awkward around people he doesn't know, August does not talk much, preferring to listen or ignore the people around him. He has a very strong sense of justice, what is right and wrong, and will not stand for any injustice that he sees, large or small. He loves to play music or read when he has the time, and can often be found with his nose in a book or playing his flute. After his twin sister June was murdered, he blamed himself and refused to speak or look at anyone for weeks, and even now he prefers not to interact with people unless he has to. When forced to speak with others, he acts cold and sulky in order to push them away. He is very lonely, but view his loneliness as a punishment he deserves for letting his sister die.
Due to his seeing June killed right before his eyes, he is very protective of the few people who manage to get him to care about them and is a harsh judge on himself, viewing any mistake as a potential failure that could result in another death. August is quick to blame himself for any misfortune his allies may suffer, be it as great as a missing limb or as minor as a scratch on their face. He can be very kind and sweet, but as he is deeply afraid to lose people as he did his sister, not many see that side of him. At times, he acts very 'street,' slipping into the broken english and punkish attitude he used while living in the back alleys and dark streets of the city. Most of the time however, he will stay silent and only speak if a verbal answer is the only way to get what he requires.

In-Depth

History: August grew up on the streets with his sister June after their parents were killed by a witch. He protected her and discovered his ability to transform into a weapon at an early age. Before then, he would lie, cheat, or steal in order to put food in his and June's bellies. Oftentimes, they were forced to sleep under the stars because they could not find shelter for the night. Despite the harsh conditions they lived in, the two were happy with their lives.
When August was eight, a street gang attempted to kill him and his sister. Unable to fight them off, August was thrown, unconscious, into an alleyway while his sister was captured. When he woke, he was filled with rage, and began to feel as though his arm was ripping apart. It was at this time that he transformed for the first time, his arm becoming a blade. Not pausing to wonder about his situation, he raced off to the gang's hideout, where he killed three men and attempted to rescue his sister. However, he was captured by the gang's leader while sneaking out the back door. The two children would have been killed if not for the assistance of another weapon by the name of Devin, who had seen August enter the building only moments before.
Devin explained that he worked for a man by the name of Josei White, a very well off man who had taken an interest in all things unusual, including living weapons. Devin offered the two a chance to find a place called home; in exchange they would work for Josei and not attempt to betray the man. Seeing this as a better opportunity than continuing life on the streets, they accepted, and soon August and June were living in the mans house, wanting for nothing. August was given training under Devin on using his weapon form, and grew to be proficient with transforming parts of his body, eventually discovering what sort of weapon he was (tiger claw). It was not until a full year had passed that they discovered his sister to also have the ability to transform into a matching tiger claw.
The two of them were trained together after that, but it soon became clear that June was not a fighter. When August reached the age of ten, he was given a job to kill one of Josei's enemies. It was on that night he discovered that the man who had taken them in was in fact a mafia boss who merely wished to use them for his own personal gain. When he refused to work for the man any longer, Josei threatened to kill June, who was taken away and hidden where August could not find her. Desperate to see his sister, August completed whatever job Josei gave him. His reward was to occasionally see June or get reassurance that she was alive. One day, he was given a simple job of sneaking in and dispatching the target, a man standing in Josei's way to becoming mayor of the city. He completed his job, but on his way back to Josei's mansion, he received word that June had escaped.
August went back to the mansion, determined to pack his things and leave to go looking for his sister, only to find her hiding in his room. Together, they made their way towards the front of the mansion, avoiding guards. They nearly made it, but Devin was able to spot them as the turned the handle and dashed for the garden. He followed them, and eventually caught up to them by the gates of the estate. He gave the one chance to return, but they refused. At that, Devin attacked. August put up a fight, but Devin was still the stronger and more skilled, so he was knocked back with ease. When June attempted to defend her brother, she was stabbed through the heart and killed.
When she died, August flew into a rage. Transforming his arms, he attacked Devin with all he had, and succeeded in killing the man, but not before several guards had discovered them. Exhausted from the fight with his former mentor, August was forced to flee, leaving his sister's body behind. He managed to make it to Death Academy, where they took him in, and ever since then, he has been here, watching and waiting for the day when he will be able to let go of his guilt for June's death.

Sarah sighed as she trudged up the stairs to her tiny apartment. It had been a long day, far too long in her opinion, and it still wasn't over. First, she had gotten off her shift at the Coffee Barn almost an hour later than normal due to clean up. She had been distracted by the money in her pocket the whole time, and had ended up re-doing the same part of the floors four times. By the time she got out of the cafe, most of the grocery stores she frequented were closed. She had no choice but to visit the Quickee Mart. God, she hated that place. The boy behind the check-out counter was painfully slow. The tiny convenience center did not have many choices when it came to produce, and she was forced to settle for a small carton of milk and a rather... questionable loaf of bread.

There was not much of a selection when it came to pasta ingredients, just a small can of parmesan cheese and some butter. There was no ricotta or heavy cream, so her plans of fettucini alfredo would have to be altered. She had picked up a wedge of mozzerella and a packet of shredded American cheese (gasp). It would just have to be plain triple cheese pasta tonight. A few shelves down, there had been some miniature containers of caviar. The place had caviar, but no ricotta! God, it was such a backwards store. Then again, the place catered to people's wants, so someone who frequented the mart must enjoy fish eggs. Luckily, she had a box of pasta in her pantry, so she didn't have to worry about finding it in the tiny hovel of a store.

It had taken the boy twenty minutes to ring her up. Twenty minutes to ring up three cheeses, a packet of butter, bread, and a bottle of milk. It seemed as though the scanner didn't agree with mozzerella. It refused to scan the item for almost five minutes, and she had tried bringing different wedges up to the counter, all with the same result. Finally, he rang it up manually, after looking into his employee handbook for ten minutes to find instructions. She left in a fouler mood than she had walked in with. It was later than she had hoped for.

To top it all off, she still had to make dinner and study for a couple hours, something she was not looking forward to. All she wanted was to go inside and collapse on her bed. Unfortunately, it seemed her new neighbors were not on the same page. As she walked down the hall towards her door, she could hear what sounded like two canines fighting. She frowned. This apartment didn't allow pets, especially not dogs. They were really causing a disturbance in there! She could hear crashing and things breaking. Eyes, wide, she quickly stumbled into her apartment, throwing her things into the refrigerator before rushing back out into the hallway.

Honestly, she could care less if they had snuck in a couple of pets. Heck, she'd been wanting to smuggle a cat in here for the past six months! But, neither her budget nor her sneaking skills were up to par. What did irritate her was the fact that as long as the ruckus continued, she'd be hard pressed to study or sleep. Trying to drown out the sounds with music wouldn't work; if she used headphones, she blow out her eardrums.

She stood at the door, hand raised to knock. Pausing, she bit her lip. What if they were violent people? Going up and demanding that they quiet down would not be the best course of action. Then again, she was hungry, tired, and just plain fed up. Gathering all her courage, she banged on the door. "Hey! Keep it down in there!" She took a deep breath, ready to unleash all her pent up fury on these people.
